However in the UK latest statistics indicate that only 69% of women breastfeed from birth and this is reduced to only 42% within 6 weeks (source: Infant Feeding Study 2000 Hamline B Et al). Many women do stop before the recommended six months of exclusive breastfeeding or 12 months of breastfeeding along with complimentary foods (as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics).
